Design criteria

Over the past few years, Kräuterhaus St. Bernhard has achieved a very positive business performance. At the same time, the product range has been strongly expanded. In order to keep pace with this trend, the company has asked psb to extend the existing intralogistics system environment and to significantly increase the system capacity.

The solution

Multi Access Warehouse for e-commerce

On this basis, psb has planned and implemented in the existing building a Multi Access Warehouse (13 m high, one storage aisle). The warehouse has a capacity of up to 750 double cycles per hour and is equipped with 10,000 carton storage locations. 20 vario.sprinter, each dedicated to a level, move storage cartons of 400 x 300 millimeters into and out of storage. Up to three cartons can be stored lengthways in one location (i.e. triple deep).

Highlight of the patented Multi Access Warehouse is the employment of three tote lifters: high-performance lifters are laterally integrated into the rack by which the warehouse supplies the rotapick with source totes within very short time, and return them back to storage.

psb selektron WMS controls the entire plant organisation, complemented by selektron SCADA, which is in charge of system diagnosis, visualisation and maintenance support as well as the operational control of the system.

For Kräuterhaus, it is an essential aspect of the concept that further modular expansions can be accomplished. With the already planned system extension, the order picking performance will be increased from currently 1,800 to 3,000 picks per hour, with a shipping volume rising from 600 to 1,000 cartons.
