Successful market launch of the psb autopick – first project implementation

After presenting our newly developed order-picking robot, the psb autopick, to a wide professional audience in March at LogiMAT, we are pleased to have received the first order. With this project, we are also strategically expanding the range of applications for that system. While the autopick has previously been used for classic order-picking tasks, it is now being used in a new application scenario.

Our customer, the IT wholesaler api, ships products using the so-called »ship-in-own-container« process – such as printers. For these items, traditional packaging is not required, as they are shipped directly in the manufacturer’s original packaging. Currently, these products are manually picked from containers and placed onto the conveyor system for transport to the outbound area. A particular challenge – and at the same time a major advantage – is that the stations can be seamlessly integrated into existing picking modules without the need for extensive modifications to the infrastructure.

Each robot achieves a throughput of up to 300 cartons per hour. In the current implementation stage, with two systems in operation, this results in a total throughput of approximately 600 items per hour.

The autopick stands out for its high level of flexibility. It can handle different container sizes (680 × 530 mm and 800 × 600 mm) and can process a wide range of carton formats, from a minimum of 350 × 250 × 95 mm to a maximum of 750 × 550 × 530 mm (length/width/height). In addition, the system covers a weight range from 1 kg to 30 kg, making it ideally suited to meet a wide variety of product requirements.

Another key advantage of the project is the factory commissioning of the entire cell, including the conveyor system. For our customer, this means:

  • significantly reduced on-site installation time
  • minimal disruption to ongoing operations
  • high level of project reliability
  • smooth and trouble-free integration

With this first project, the autopick impressively demonstrates its performance and versatility, marking an important step forward in the further development of automated picking solutions.
