Kramer Equestrian

Highly efficient multi-channel distribution

Kramer Equestrian is the European leader for equestrian equipment. In addition to currently 36 stores, there are further important sales channels: besides the traditional printed catalogue, which is published in six country-specific variants, the range of articles is presented in individual online shops in the respective national language. This way, Kramer achieves a strong interlinkage and balance between stationary trade and online business.

Logistics center with 10-aisle AKL with AS/RS sprinter for 110 000 bin locations and a 6-aisle high bay warehouse with AS/RS maxloader for 16 500 pallet locations.

Design criteria

Through the international expansion over the last years and the extension and optimisation of the product range, a larger warehouse and a highly automated intralogistics installation at the headquarters in Hockenheim (southwest Germany) became inevitable. The product range comprises of more than 25,000 different items, thereof a large number of fashion articles.

Highly efficient multi-channel distribution

The psb systems technology for Kramer encompasses a small parts warehouse and a high bay storage, including the related storage pre-zones and conveyor technology, order picking workplaces and stations, consolidation and packing stations and the inbound and outbound storage workstations. Furthermore, the delivery volume includes the comprehensive psb control and software package selektron, with the MFC Material Flow Computers, the WMS Warehouse Management System, and the interface to the ERP system D&G VS4, used at Kramer.

The 10-aisle small parts warehouse with 110,000 bin locations is operated by 10 psb AS/RS stacker cranes type sprinter. They are equipped with dual load handling devices for handling four bins at the same time. The system installation is designed for 1,600 bin double cycles/h. It is connected with six order picking stations, with a performance of up to 1,200 positions per hour. In addition, the small parts warehouse is used for the returns handling, a decisive matter for Kramer. For this reason, psb paid particular attention to this aspect in the planning phase.

Furthermore, three external replenishment warehouses were replaced by an automated pallet high bay warehouse with 16,500 pallet locations. The warehouse, with six aisles, 110 m long, about 50 m wide and a clear height of 21 m, is designed for double-deep storage. It is operated by 6 AS/RS stacker cranes type maxloader.

psb implemented two different order picking processes, which can be combined with each other. This way, the requirements of both sales channels – stores and online– with different material flows and warehouse access, can be met. With WMS selektron, Kramer can permanently set the priorities between individual shipments and store supply, and the daily changing requirements of the individual stores.
